The majority of golfers visiting Ireland usually make their way directly to the iconic and championship courses such as Royal Portrush, K-Club and Royal County Down.  The success of the 148 Open in 2019 has only served to increase the popularity of these courses, but with around 500 golf courses across the Island of Ireland and a host of off-course activities, we have given an overview below of some of the journeys which will take in amazing golf courses and provide the chance to visit some of Irelands wonderful experiences.

GOLF ADVENTURE 1
North coast and Donegal

40 minutes travel time

After collecting your luxury Glamper Motorhome head up to the North Coast there you will have a choice of 3 golf courses.

The legendary Royal Portrush, which played host to the 148th Open in 2019 with its two championship courses. Portstewart Golf Club is a three links golf course. This outstanding Championship Strand Course was the host for the 2017 Dubai Duty-Free Irish Open Castlerock Golf Club is another Championship Links Club

Campsites:

Hilltop Holiday Park 

Skerries Holiday Park

Or a little further Causeway Coast Holiday Park. This campsite is only a 30minute drive away in the holiday town of Ballycastle, only a short stroll from the beach.

 

Places of interest:

The Giants Causeway and Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge are only 15 minutes drive away. Dunluce Castle, Dark Hedges and Ballintoy Harbour are all easily accessible.

For the next part of your journey catch the ferry at Magilligan Point in Co. Derry/Londonderry across Lough Foyle to Greencastle in County Donegal and finish off in Ballyliffin, Co.Donegal

Ballyliffin Golf Course is recognised as one of the finest golf clubs in the world. Located on the Northern tip of Ireland and home to two championship links.

Campsites:

Binnion Bay Caravan and Camping Facility, only 11 minutes away in Clonmany.  Situated along the Wild Atlantic Way offering spectacular views.

If you fancy a day off from golfing why not visit the Glenevin Waterfall, 11 minutes away from camp or perhaps the Doagh Famine village only 14 minutes away.

Of course, the beach is never too far away either if you prefer to relax for the day.

GOLF ADVENTURE 2
West Coast of Ireland

3 hours travel time

Visit the West Coast Co, Sligo with three fabulous golf courses on offer:

Sligo Golf Club or Rosses Point as it is better known is an exhilarating West Coast Links situated in the heart of the Yeats country.

Strandhill Golf Club is a short drive away and is a beautiful 18-hole links course situated on Irelands Wild Atlantic coast.

Enniscrone Golf Club is a championship links course and ranked in the top 15 courses in Ireland

Rosses Point at Greenland’s Camping and Caravan Site

 

 

If you fancy a rest from the golf here are some places you may wish to visit.

Places of interest:

Benbulbin a tabletop mountain formed by moving glaciers during the Ice Age, Approx.: 20 minutes drive from Rosses Point Campsite or 30 minutes from Strand hill Campsite.

Strandhill Beach famous for surfing

Glen Car Lake and Waterfall. This gem is 20 minutes drive from both campsites.

Lissadell House the childhood home of the Irish revolutionary Constane Gore-Booth and the home of Constance Markievicz who was involved in the 1916 risings, is 20 minutes from Rosses Point and 30 minutes from Strand hill.

GOLF ADVENTURE 3
Connemara, County Galway

5 hours travel time

Drive along the Wild Atlantic Way and head to Connemara National Park for a day’s relaxation. Taking in the spectacular views from your Glamper.  Stop off on route for a cuppa or a bite to eat.

Connemara Isles Golf Club is a distinctive 9-hole link (joined to the mainland by a causeway), which offers views of the Atlantic Ocean. Playing the nine holes is a challenge, however, playing the back 9 tees is a memory.

 Connemara Championship Golf Links is Galway’s only true links, it is nestled between the scenic splendour of the 12 Bens Mountain range and the rugged Atlantic Ocean, and lies to the West of Clifden.  From the testing dog leg opening hole through to the breath-taking back 9 the course is a test for all levels.  In 2000 an additional 9 holes were unveiled to add a further dimension to the exhilarating experience,

Trump Doonbeg is a resort course and not a links, it is an experience but would not rank anywhere near its neighbours.

Ennis Golf Club is 127km from Connemara was founded in 1907 and is an immaculately manicured 18-hole par 70 parkland course.

Having direct access to the golden sands at Lettergesh beach, which is situated directly on the Wild Atlantic Way and a short drive from Connemara National Park.

Clifden Campsite and Caravan Park

Places of interest:

Kylemore Abbey Step back in time with an Afternoon spent in the Abbey. Take a stroll around the lake, visit the walled gardens and the woodlands.

Connemara National Park boosting megalithic tombs dating from 4000 years ago.  Views from the park are spectacular.

Killyary Fjord  The only Fjord in Ireland.  Extending from the Atlantic Ocean, ten miles inland to the Aasleagh Falls near the tiny village of Leenane.  Why not take a 90 minute cruise to see the spectacular Fjord from a different view.

 

 

 

GOLF ADVENTURE 4
Killarney/Kinsale/Cobh, County Cork/ County Kerry

Approx. 5 hours 35 minutes

Killarney, where Killarney Golf and Fishing Club is one of the Irelands most prestigious and historic golfing venues in Ireland. Located in Killarney National Park and surrounded by the lakes of Lough Leane, where you can try catching your dinner! The Golf Club is home to two 18-hole championship courses plus a 9-hole course.

Campsite

Killarney Flesk Caravan and Camping is situated at the start of the Kerry Way. 

Walking and cycle paths lead directly from the park to Killarney National Park and is also the closest campsite to the town centre. Guests can avail themselves of the nearby facilities of the Glen Eagle Hotel which include a swimming pool, splash pool, Jacuzzi, sauna etc. What a way to relax after a busy day.

Fleming’s White Bridge is also close to the National Park.

Kinsale Town is known as the Gourmet Capital of Ireland with a large selection of restaurants and bars, so why not spoil yourself after a day of golfing. 

KINSALE GOLF CLUB is a championship course and has a long and distinguished history dating from 1880, situated 5 kilometres from Kinsale and 20 kilometres from Cork City.  It measures 6,935 yards and consists of two 9-hole loops finishing at the Clubhouse.

Garrettstown House Holiday Park – 20 minutes from Kinsale Golf club.

Sextons Caravan and Camping Park – 40 minutes from Kinsale golf club.

Cobh is the next stopover with the testing 27 holes of Fota Island only minutes away.

Fota Island Golf Club designed by Christy Connor Jnr is three times host to the Irish Open and has three courses Deerpark, Belvelly and Barryscourt

Campsite:

Jasmine Villa Camping and Caravan Park are only 6 kilometres from Fota Wildlife Park and Golf Course.  For more details check out the Discover Ireland website

Places of interest:

Take a few days away from golf and enjoy the journey through Glengarriff, Bantry, Skibbereen and Clonakilty along with the N71 heading to Cork for golf and stunning views at the Old Head of Kinsale.

Wicklow, County Wicklow

Approx. 2 hours 50 minutes

Wicklow National Park has a superb mix of courses in the surrounding area.

Arklow Golf Course is a testing 18-hole course overlooking the Irish Sea

Woodenbridge Golf Course in the Vale of Avaco is known as “Irelands Augusta” and the most scenic golf course in Ireland

Druids Glen Golf Course has two excellent championship courses

Powerscourt two championship golf courses set in the renowned Powerscourt Estate

Campsites

There are many campsites to choose from in Wicklow we have listed a couple of options:

Rivervalley Camping and Caravan Park  This site offers crazy golf, kids camp, a petting zoo, remote cars and boats and a tiny tots park.  For Adults, there is an Adults only area.

Hidden Valley Caravan Park  Where you can visit the nearby Splash Valley Aqua Park, mini golf, rock walls and playgrounds.

Places of interest:

Wicklow Way Visit one of Ireland’s most popular trails. 131km long, this trail runs from County Wicklow to County Carlow. Passing through the Wicklow Mountains.

Powerscrout House and Gardens  Names one of the top three most beautiful gardens in the world By National Geographic. You can visit the 13th centuray house and with over 47 acres you can visit the Italian garden, Japanese garden and walled garden.

GOLF ADVENTURE 6

Dublin area, County Dublin

Approx. 2 hours 30 minutes

Dublin is 132 miles away from your pick up point in Ballymena and there are some great courses to choose from, such as:

Portmarnock Golf Club is 10 miles to the North of Dublin City and sits majestically on a narrow tongue of shallow duneland.  It is one of the most respected venues in world golf and has played host to some of the world’s most famous golfers.

Portmarnock Links is situated on the shoreline of a rugged peninsula, Bernard Langer choose this magnificent setting to design his first links course.

The Royal Dublin Golf Club is another magnificent links and wildly accepted as one of the greatest links courses in the world with Christy O’Connor Senior their golf professional for an incredible 57 years, an unbelievable 18 hole links course situated on an island reserve in the heart of Dublin City

The K Club is only 30 minutes from Dublin in a beautiful location in Co Kildare and has been home to the 2006 Ryder Cup, 2016 Dubai Duty-Free Irish Open and 13 European Opens.

 

 

Carton House is nestled in the heart of 1,100 acres of private parkland and yet is just 25mins from Dublin City centre. The club has hosted 3 Irish Opens and home to the Golfing Union of Ireland.  The 36-hole Carton House golfing experience is like no other.

Killeen Castle Golf Club one of Irelands finest Golf Clubs designed by Jack Nicklaus, it is a championship course with Killeen Castle as a backdrop and the 18th hole is amazing.

Camac Vallley Tourist Caravan and Camping Park Between 20 and 30 minutes drive from each golf course.

North Beach Tourist Caravan and Mobile home Park Between 40 and 60 minutes drive from each golf course.

Places of interest:

Dublin City is 30 minutes from Camac Valley park and 40 minutes from North Beach Caravan Park.

Guinness Storehouse, Jameson Distillery. Phoenix Park and Dublin Zoo is well worth a visit.

GOLF ADVENTURE 7

Newcastle, County Down

Our next itinerary will include Newcastle, Co. Down and the magnificent Mourne mountains

Royal County Down Golf Course a Championship links and number 4 in the world, and is located in one of the world most beautiful links settings.  The 9th hole is one of the most photographed holes in the world golf.

Ardglass Golf Course is just across the bay is an 18-hole links course in a natural setting.

Campsites:

Tollymore Forest Park overlook bt the magnificent Mourne Mountains.

Windsor Holiday Park

Places of interest

Silent Valley Reservoir 

Tollymore Forest Park will be recognised from Game of Thrones.  Fans will recognise the area, as North of Winterfell. Where the Nightwalkers were spotted and the Direwolf Pups were found.

National Trust Murlough National Nature Reserve

If you can fit in one last round before dropping your motorhome off we have one last option for you:

Galgorm Castle Golf Course is an 18-hole championship golf course and is constantly ranked as one of the top parkland courses in Northern Ireland.

There are a number of campsites along the Antrim coast that are approximately 30/40 minutes away.

We have chosen the closest ones to Galgorm Castle Golf Club.
